Physical Therapist.
Coach.
Lifelong athlete.

My Clinical Credentials

A young man with short, curly brown hair and a wide smile, wearing a plaid jacket over a white shirt, in an indoor setting with blurred background.

My goal is to get you back to enjoying the things you love, as quickly as possible. My practice blends together my own experiences as an athlete, a coach, an educator, and a clinician to give the highest quality of care possible.

In addition to the doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) degree I earned at the University of Washington in 2014, I received a Master’s degree (MS) from Boise State University in 2008, where I worked as a graduate assistant in the exercise physiology and biomechanics lab.

I am a board-certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). I’m now a Portland-based running coach and physical therapist at SportsLab PDX.

My Personal Values Credentials

My other experiences include competing collegiately in track and cross country, teaching health education while living in India, working as a personal trainer in Seattle, and coaching cross country and track at Roosevelt High School in Portland.

When not at the clinic, I love going on outdoor adventures with my wife and two amazing daughters.

What clients are saying.

  • "Aging as an athlete can be physically and emotionally taxing- especially if you have injuries and goals! Working with someone who understands this dynamic is so important. Jake has an excellent balance of knowledge, kindness and is super responsive. Since working together I’m getting stronger and remembering why I love running"

    —Stacie A.

  • "Jake Stout is my highest recommendation for PT in the Portland area. He is fair, hard working, and genuine. He worked with me as a collegiate athlete for the university of Portland and dug my career out of the grave it was headed towards. I can attribute both of my successes in college and now as a professional runner to the solid foundation of rehabilitation exercises and deep tissue maintenance that he provided."

    —Reid Buchanan

Professional runner for ON Running and multiple time All American at the University of Portland.

  • "After a stress fracture took me out of marathon training, Jake not only got me running again, but he coached me to become a stronger and healthier athlete."

    —Former Client

  • "Jake is a professional, kind, and extremely knowledgeable physical therapist who has, over the years, helped fix my knee (boot camp / running injury) dislocated rib, misc neck injury, and some random foot pain (from running). He has also helped me be pain free for months now ever since he started helping me with my training."
